Millions of Drop-side Cots are Recalled in the US After Tragic Death of Four Babies
Last night, there was a massive recall of more than 2.1 million drop-side cots, sold in the USA and Canada.
The recalled cots have all been made by the Stork Craft company, with some bearing the Fisher-Price logo. It is believed that no major retailer in the UK sells these particular cots. However, it is possible that British consumers may have purchased them on the Internet and had them shipped over.
The recall follows a total of 110 reported incidents, where the drop-side has broken off. These incidents include 15 entrapments, four of which resulted in suffocation. There were also 20 reports of infants falling from cots, with injuries ranging from concussion to bumps and bruises.
If you have a Stork Craft or Fisher-Price dropside cot you should contact Stork Craft to receive a free repair kit that converts the drop-side on these cribs to a fixed side.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), along with Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc, have urged parents to immediately stop using the recalled cribs, wait for the free repair kit, and refrain from trying to fix the cribs without the kit.
You must find an alternative, safe sleeping environment for your baby until the cot has been fixed.
