Twin Tuesday On Wednesday – Again! (Sorry!)
Question of the Week:
What is your favourite Thanksgiving memory involving your twins so far?
Twin Jen’s answer:
“I know some of you may not have a lot to choose from yet, but I’m actually going to share one from Thanksgiving 2004… which was just shortly after finding out that I was pregnant with twins! We decided that Thanksgiving dinner would be the perfect time to break our news, since the whole family was gathered together anyway. A few actually already knew that I was pregnant… but nobody knew that it was twins, yet! So, it was a great icebreaker for the evening
Actually, the only people who did know that we were having twins before the announcement, was my in-laws. And, at dinner, my Mother-in-Law presented me with a baby name book. We actually already had names picked out… one for a girl (Anna), one for a boy (Robert). Although, while we did not yet know the sexes of our twins, we knew the possibility existed that, we would have to pick out a second boy’s or girl’s name. I was never able to decide on a second boy’s name… which, ultimately turned out to be unnecessary, of course :-p But, I actually found a second girl’s name in the book that I settled on almost immediately: Josephine (or Josie, for short). Not only did I like sound of both the full and shortened version of the name, but the description of what the name meant just seemed perfect, too: “May God grant you another child.” I’ll admit that I’m not a particularly religious person… but, I couldn’t help think, “That He did… that He did…”
So, what’s your favourite Thanksgiving memory involving your twins? If you don’t really have one, you can also just answer with why you are thankful that you have twins.”
My response:
I am ever so glad that Jen added in that last sentence: “If you don’t really have one, you can also just answer with why you are thankful that you have twins.” I’m from Scotland, UK, and we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving over here – unfortunately! However, I am thankful for a lot of things: my home, my job (yes, really!!), my health, my friends and my family (especially Hubby & the girls!!)
I am extremely thankful that I have been blessed with my gorgeous twin daughters because:
- I never wanted to have an only child – Hubby & I put off starting a family. We were together 7 years before we married. We were married 5 years before we got pregnant. However, once we decided that the time was right we agreed that we wanted more than one child and would like to have them close together. We just didn’t expect to have them just TWO minutes apart!!
- Although the first six months were a bit of a blur, having twins is actually easier than having two infants of different ages because they are at the same developmental stage, in the same routine, use the same size of nappies, etc. Twins also keep each other company, amuse and entertain each other, and they comfort and reassure one another (from a very early age), making bedtimes easier than for a singleton.
- My daughters have allowed me entry into an exclusive group – I am a Mum of Twins – a Multiple Mum – and that very fact has made me feel a little special from the day of my first scan!
Most of all, I am just thankful that I have two healthy, beautiful, intelligent, well behaved little girls!!
Yes, life is good.
Oh, and I’d just like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to YOU – my readers! – You are very much appreciated. Thank you very much for stopping by to read my blog, and I hope you call back again soon… :-)
