The One-Minute Writer: Today's Writing Prompt: Learning#links

Today, I have to write about something I decided to learn, that was more difficult than I expected.

It was Christmas Day 1985. There, under the tree was exactly what I had wished for. A brand new acoustic guitar. Wow!

The guitar came with a book, promising to teach me to play in just thirty days. Wow! I was itching to get started. I was anxious to learn, and so looking forward to being able to play a tune.

However, thirty days later the novelty had long since worn off. I could barely strum a few cords, and I was bored and frustrated that I could not yet play a recognisable tune. I am ashamed to say that I gave up in my quest to learn how to play the guitar, and it has long since gathered dust in my parents’ attic.

  1. I was the same with my guitar attempts.

  2. I’m thinking there are a lot of failed guitarists out there! I wanted to learn as a child, but since we did not own a guitar and did own a piano, guess what happened there. I did finally get a guitar as a gift from my husband for Christmas 2006. Unfortunately, that was also about 5 weeks before our puppy Axel arrived, again, guess what happened there. Now that Axel is almost 4 years old I guess I should get back on it!
