Does your child’s nursery serve good quality food?

March 16, 2010 By: admin Category: Healthy Mamma, Mamma's Kids

Concerns about the quality of food given to thousands of toddlers in England’s nurseries have been raised in a government-commissioned report.

The School Food Trust report suggests food served by childminders and nurseries is too high in fat, sugar and salt, and lacks essential nutrients.

February 18, 2010 By: admin Category: Healthy Mamma, Mamma's Neighbourhood, Miscellaneous Mamma

adtiaraI’ve just signed up for the Midnight Tiara Walk for Strathcarron Hospice on Saturday 8th May 2010.  I will take to the streets of Stirling on the stroke of midnight to embark on a sponsored 10 mile walk to raise funds for the hospice.

If you live in the Central Scotland area, why not join me?  You can register online here, but hurry, places are limited!  Last year, I was gutted because the event was closed to entrants by the time I found out about it!

I’ve Lost Half a Stone in Two Weeks!

September 19, 2009 By: admin Category: Beautiful Mamma, Healthy Mamma, Mamma's Diary

Businesswoman shouting her victory to the worldI was delighted to discover that I’d lost 2.5 lbs on the second week of my diet, which means that I’ve lost 7 lbs in two weeks – that’s half a stone!

My class was absolutely mobbed on Thursday night!  It was queued out the door when I arrived sharply at 7pm for my weigh-in.  I asked a few of my fellow dieters in the queue, whether this was especially busy or not.  It was certainly the busiest I’ve seen it out of my three visits.  Everyone agreed that it was an exceptionally busy night.

Tonight Will Be The Moment of Truth

September 10, 2009 By: admin Category: Beautiful Mamma, Healthy Mamma, Mamma's Diary

scalesWell, it’s been a week now, since I joined my local slimming club, and I’ve been following the diet meticulously. I think I’ve done okay, and it hasn’t been too difficult.

When I told Hubby I was joining a slimming club, his response was:
“You just need to cut down a bit and exercise more!”

We All Come in Different Shapes and Sizes

September 04, 2009 By: admin Category: Beautiful Mamma, Healthy Mamma, Mamma's Diary

Last night I finally did something I’d been meaning to do for some considerable time. I joined a Slimming Class!!
I’d never been to one before, and I was more than a little nervous of going in. However, my fears were unfounded. Every one was really nice and welcoming,, You get weighed privately, and the Consultant doesn’t announce your weight to everyone, merely your loss or gain.

Why Every Woman of Child-Bearing Age Should Take Folic Acid

September 02, 2009 By: admin Category: Healthy Mamma

PregnantWhen I came off the contraceptive pill several years ago, my doctor advised me to start taking Folic Acid straight away.  I heeded her advice, and took the supplement daily until I found out I was pregnant (several months later).  I then switched to pregnancy supplement, Pregnacare.

At my 12-week scan I was delighted to discover that I was expecting twins!  My midwife prescribed Folic Acid and Iron tablets which, thanks to our wonderful NHS in the UK, I received free of charge throughout the rest of my pregnancy.  Thus, I no longer had to buy the  branded supplement, Pregnacare.

Strict Detox Finished – Now onto the Maintenance Diet

October 29, 2008 By: Annette Category: Healthy Mamma

Hi everyone!

Thanks for stopping by to check on my diet progress.

Yesterday was the last day of my 28-day detox diet, and today I moved onto the maintenance diet.  I can now eat lean meat, poultry, white & oily fish, wholemeal bread and low-fat dairy.

I’m happy to report that I have lost 8.5lbs on the detox diet.  I would, perhaps, have liked to have lost more.  However, I’m confident that I will continue losing weight, as I follow the maintenance diet.

Day 26 – The end is nigh!

October 26, 2008 By: Annette Category: Healthy Mamma

Hi everyone!

Thanks for stopping by on Day 26 of my 28-day detox diet.  I’m almost at the end of the ‘detox proper’.  Come Thursday, I will be going onto the Maintenance Diet.

I’ll be following the Maintenance Diet right up until Christmas, with a break at the end of November, when I go to Dublin for a Hen Weekend.  (There’s no way I’d be able to stick to a detox diet that weekend!  LOL)

Day 23 – Just five more days…

October 23, 2008 By: Annette Category: Healthy Mamma

Hi everyone!

Thanks for stopping by on Day 23 of my 28-day detox diet.

Last night I went out for dinner with my best friend, Audrey.  We are both busy ladies and don’t get to see each other as much as we’d like to, so I didn’t want to postpone our get-together just because I’m on this detox diet.

We dined at the wonderful Riverhouse Restaurant on Stirling’s Waterfront.  It’s a favourite restaurant for us.  The food is delicious, and the service is great.  The location is ideal for us too, as it is quite central for us, with us both living at opposite ends of Stirlingshire, and with being close to the motorway.

Day 21 – Only One More Week To Go!

October 21, 2008 By: Annette Category: Healthy Mamma

Hi everyone!

Thanks for stopping by as I go into the fourth and final week of my 28-day detox diet.

I’m happy to report that I’ve managed to stick to my diet, although I must confess that I’m starting to feel a little bit bored with the same foods.  I’m looking forward to progressing onto the maintenance diet next week, when I can re-introduce lean meat, oily fish, low fat dairy and wholemeal bread.

Day 18 – Ten Reasons Why You Should Detox

October 18, 2008 By: Annette Category: Healthy Mamma

Hi everyone!

It’s Day 18 of my 28 day detox diet, so I’ve just ten more days to go!  Woo hoo!

I haven’t updated this blog for a few days, as it’s been a crazy week for me.  My husband had to go to London to testify as a witness in a high-profile trial this week.  It was a stressful time for the family.
