I was standing at the checkout at Sainsbury's on my lunch break today, with my basketful of shopping all laid out on the conveyor belt when, out of the blue, a grey-haired old man steps in front of me and places four tins of soup in front of my groceries.

Today is both World Poetry Day and World Forestry Day. As a member of Bloggers Unite, I thought I would pay homage to both of these days by sharing a poem about trees, as well as some of the photographs I have taken of trees in my neighbourhood.

I love where I live. My small town is situated in an ideal location. It’s close to beautiful countryside, but has great commuter links to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Falkirk and Stirling.

I’ve decided to start a new meme – Thankful Thursday - where participants blog about what they are thankful for in the current day / week.
First thing this morning, I wasn’t feeling very thankful. I was feeling very tired and in desperate need of a long lie. When I eventually dragged myself out of my bed and peered outside, all I could see was a swirling white blizzard!

The MckLinky Blog Hop theme for this Monday is “Snow Pics and Stories“. With many places getting their “once every hundred years snow”, MckLinky thought it would be fun to see our snow pics and hear about the snow in our areas.
I live in Scotland, UK, and we have experienced our coldest winter in more than a generation. The British media has dubbed this winter as “The Big Freeze“.

I’ve just signed up for the Midnight Tiara Walk for Strathcarron Hospice on Saturday 8th May 2010. I will take to the streets of Stirling on the stroke of midnight to embark on a sponsored 10 mile walk to raise funds for the hospice.
If you live in the Central Scotland area, why not join me? You can register online here, but hurry, places are limited! Last year, I was gutted because the event was closed to entrants by the time I found out about it!

The weather is always a hot topic of conversation here in Scotland. Yes, we Scots just love having a right good moan about it! Usually we moan about the wind and rain and about how cold it is. However, many Scots (you know who you are!) even have a winge about the heat on the odd day that the mercury nudges 25 C.

In yesterday’s
Wordless Wednesday post I published a fun post of my sister and I at
Blair Drummond Safari Park, near Stirling. It was taken last week on a day trip with my daughters. Like me and the girls, my sister (who is a teacher) was off work last week for the school October break. Therefore she suggested that wee all go somewhere together. We all had a fantastic day out.
It’s not a cheap day out! It cost us #37.50GBP for 2 adults & 2 children. Add in the cost of lunch for four at the cafeteria restaurant at #21.90GBP, and 10 tokens for the rides #5.00GBP. Luckily, I had brought some snacks and drinks for later, and had some leftover tokens from our previous visit, else I would not have had much change from #100.00GBP!

I came across some fantastic Kids Go Free offers in today’s Scottish Daily Mail, which I just had to tell you about.
There’s a full page of coupons in the paper (14 offers in all), which will come in very handy for the School October Break. Many of the offers are available until the end of November. Therefore there’s enough activies to keep you and your family occupied during the October break and every weekend until the end of next month.
