My Hero Hubby is the Wonderfulest!

June 21, 2011 By: Mamma Kerr Category: Blog Hops, Featured Post, Mamma's Diary, Mamma's Memes, Mamma's Memories, Mamma's Neighbourhood, Miscellaneous Mamma, Opinionated Mamma

I could’ve lost my Hubby on his 40th Birthday!   His brave actions put his own life at risk to save the lives of hundreds of passengers at Glasgow Airport on the day that an attempted terrorist attack took place.

We had just returned from a family holiday on 30th June 2007, when two terrorists stormed the airport with a jeep loaded with petrol cannisters.  The terrorists then started attacking a policeman who had run to the scene, before one of the men actually set himself alight!  My husband had been packing our suitcases into the car when the attackers struck.  At first he thought it was just an accident, but pretty soon he realised that something far more sinister was unfolding, and he ran to the aid of the lone policeman who was under attack by the terrorists.

My Top Ten Places to Visit in Scotland

October 10, 2010 By: Mamma Kerr Category: Mamma's Neighbourhood, Miscellaneous Mamma

I am Scottish and proud of it!  It’s a lovely country to live in.  We are never far from the countryside or the coast, and we can boast some of the world’s most stunning scenery.  Granted, our weather leaves a lot to be desired (one constant rainy season!) but I suppose that is what makes our countryside so green and lush! ;)

Here’s my top ten destinations for visitors to my homeland: (more…)

What I Meant to Say… in Sainsbury’s Today…

April 21, 2010 By: Mamma Kerr Category: Blog Hops, Mamma's Diary, Mamma's Memes, Mamma's Neighbourhood, Miscellaneous Mamma, Opinionated Mamma, Working Mamma

I was standing at the checkout at Sainsbury's on my lunch break today, with my basketful of shopping all laid out on the conveyor belt when, out of the blue, a grey-haired old man steps in front of me and places four tins of soup in front of my groceries.

Today is both World Poetry Day and World Forestry Day.  As a member of Bloggers Unite, I thought I would pay homage to both of these days by sharing a poem about trees, as well as some of  the photographs I have taken of trees in my neighbourhood.

The Good

I love where I live.  My small town is situated in an ideal location.  It’s close to beautiful countryside, but has great commuter links to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Falkirk and Stirling.

Join My New Meme / Blog Hop

February 25, 2010 By: Mamma Kerr Category: Blog Hops, Mamma's Diary, Mamma's Kids, Mamma's Memes, Mamma's Neighbourhood, Thankful Thursday, Working Mamma

I’ve decided to start a new meme – Thankful Thursday - where participants blog about what they are thankful for in the current day / week.

First thing this morning, I wasn’t feeling very thankful. I was feeling very tired and in desperate need of a long lie. When I eventually dragged myself out of my bed and peered outside, all I could see was a swirling white blizzard!

Blog Hop – Snow Pics and Stories

February 23, 2010 By: Mamma Kerr Category: Blog Hops, Mamma's Diary, Mamma's Garden, Mamma's Home, Mamma's Kids, Mamma's Memes, Mamma's Memories, Mamma's Neighbourhood

The MckLinky Blog Hop theme for this Monday is “Snow Pics and Stories“. With many places getting their “once every hundred years snow”, MckLinky thought it would be fun to see our snow pics and hear about the snow in our areas.

I live in Scotland, UK, and we have experienced our coldest winter in more than a generation.  The British media has dubbed this winter as “The Big Freeze“.

Midnight Tiara Walk for Strathcarron Hospice

February 18, 2010 By: Mamma Kerr Category: Healthy Mamma, Mamma's Neighbourhood, Miscellaneous Mamma

adtiaraI’ve just signed up for the Midnight Tiara Walk for Strathcarron Hospice on Saturday 8th May 2010.  I will take to the streets of Stirling on the stroke of midnight to embark on a sponsored 10 mile walk to raise funds for the hospice.

If you live in the Central Scotland area, why not join me?  You can register online here, but hurry, places are limited!  Last year, I was gutted because the event was closed to entrants by the time I found out about it!

Rainy Days and Mondays Always Get Me Down

November 02, 2009 By: Mamma Kerr Category: Mamma's Diary, Mamma's Neighbourhood

rain

The weather is  always a hot topic of conversation here in Scotland.  Yes, we Scots just love having a right good moan about it!  Usually we moan about the wind and rain and about how cold it is.  However, many Scots (you know who you are!) even have a winge about the heat on the odd day that the mercury nudges 25 C.

We All Went on Safari!

October 22, 2009 By: Mamma Kerr Category: Mamma Reviews, Mamma's Diary, Mamma's Kids, Mamma's Neighbourhood

In yesterday’s Wordless Wednesday post I published a fun post of my sister and I at Blair Drummond Safari Park, near Stirling.  It was taken last week on a day trip with my daughters.  Like me and the girls, my sister (who is a teacher) was off work last week for the school October break.  Therefore she suggested that wee all go somewhere together.  We all had a fantastic day out.
It’s not a cheap day out! It cost us #37.50GBP for 2 adults & 2 children. Add in the cost of lunch for four at the cafeteria restaurant at #21.90GBP, and 10 tokens for the rides #5.00GBP. Luckily, I had brought some snacks and drinks for later, and had some leftover tokens from our previous visit, else I would not have had much change from #100.00GBP!
